My 13 year old daughter, Bethany, is sick today and home from school. I decided to take a rest break with her and rented the movie, “Grease”. I haven’t seen this movie in a long time but I remembered loving the songs and the story. I wanted to watch it with her as the content has a certain level of sexuality that I wanted to be able to dialogue with her about as we were watching the film. It was so much fun to just hang and watch it with her. To sing along with some of the songs, to chat about the characters, their personalities, the dynamics of their peer groups, being a senior in high school, dating, boundaries………Historically, when my kids have been sick and had to stay home from school I’ve been bummed, as it has “interrupted” my original plans for the day. I decided today to celebrate it as a “gift of time” with my daughter and to engage with her, even in her being bummed about not feeling well. It was good. I really like Bethany.
>I love this. Great perspective mama.
